Working of the depth of field scale

If you want to photograph a number of objects at different distances, then you use the depth of field scale. The depth of field scale consists of a series of numbers which are marked on both sides of the set point and that correspond with the aperture values. After focusing, you can read off the extet of the sharpness area for the chosen aperture, which is located between identical numbers on both sides of the set point on the distance scale.

Example: If the lens is set to 4 meter and the chosen aperture is f/11, then the shot will be sharp in the border area from 2.5 to 10 meter.
